Celebrating
Tammy Lynne (Carr) Carter was born on April 10, 1961, in Gary, Indiana, to Henry and Evelyn Carr. She was raised in a home grounded in love, responsibility, and care for others—values she carried with her throughout her life. Tammy was naturally reserved and unassuming, but her kindness spoke louder than words. She was thoughtful, generous, and deeply caring, the kind of person who showed love through her actions. If you needed someone to talk to, someone to listen, or someone to help in any way, Tammy was always there—steady, dependable, and sincere.
Tammy was not one to seek the spotlight, but she built meaningful connections through consistency, loyalty, and quiet care. She attended Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana, and later continued her education through Job Corps, where she began laying the foundation for a life rooted in hard work and responsibility. From there, she went on to a career with the railroad company, Union Pacific, where she dedicated more than 40 years of service before retiring. She carried that same loyalty and work ethic into her career in the railroad industry, where she was known as dependable, dedicated, and someone who truly cared about what she did and the people she worked with.
Outside of work, Tammy found happiness in the quiet routines of everyday life and in taking care of the people she loved most. Her greatest joy came from her family—Charles, Keenan, Keely, and her beloved granddaughter, Boston. She enjoyed trying new recipes, keeping herself active, and creating a sense of comfort and care in the home. Whether she was cooking a meal, checking in with someone she loved, or simply spending time together, Tammy showed her love through thoughtfulness and presence. For her, being there mattered, and she made sure the people around her always felt supported.
Above all else, Tammy’s world was her family. They were her pride, her purpose, and her greatest joy. She was a devoted wife to her husband Charles, a loving and proud mother to Keenan and Keely, and a doting grandmother to her sweet granddaughter, Boston, who brought her endless happiness. Tammy’s love ran deep, and she gave it freely—to her sisters Phyllis and Carol (William); her brothers Nathanial (Jackie), Charles (Sheila), Timothy, and David; and to the many nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to be part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Evelyn Carr; her brother Henry Jr.; and her sisters Sandra, Barbara, and Sharon. While her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, we take comfort in believing she was welcomed with open arms by those who went before her.
Losing Tammy is deeply painful, but her presence remains—in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the love she poured into all of us. She will always be a part of who we are, carried forward in memory and in heart.
