Lola Mae Hunter was born on August 27, 1947, in Springfield, Arkansas, in the small community of Union Chapel to Ruby F. Cheatham and the late Alphia Donald. She departed this life on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Lola was the eldest of five siblings and she is preceded in death by her son Glistern Hill Jr. and two brothers, Claude Cheatham and Elvis Cheatham.
Lola accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful and supportive member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she sang joyfully in the choir. Lola was also a devoted member of the Crown Jewels Singers of North Little Rock for 16 years.
She was a graduate of Scipio A. Jones High School. She later continued her education at Shorter College, where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree. Her passion for learning led her to further her studies at Philander Smith College.
She was united in marriage to the late Charles H. Hunter, Sr. and together they shared 32 wonderful years.
Lola enjoyed a long and successful career with Sears & Roebuck in management for over 31 years until her retirement. After enjoying only three years of retirement, her desire to stay active and helpful led her to return to work at Baptist Hospital. Where she continued to serve others with kindness and humility. Lola was a devoted daughter until her health began to fail. Faithfully caring for her mother with love and strength. Lola had a remarkable love for plants. She also collected elephants. Each symbolizing the wisdom, loyalty, and patience she embodied. She found joy in cooking, fishing, reading her bible and her favorite pastime...shopping.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Stacie Doublin of Chicago, Illinois; Ann (Tommy) Scott, of Lonoke, Arkansas; Tenille Hunter of Little Rock, Arkansas and Janice Anderson of Sherwood, Arkansas; sons; Charles (Tiffany) Hunter Jr. of Lonoke, Arkansas and Aaron (Tiffany) Hunter of Dallas, Texas; brothers: David Cheatham of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Kenneth Cheatham of Hemet, California; fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, beloved cousins, and friends.
Lola will be remembered for her quiet strength, loving heart, and her unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
